Namecheap Logo Maker Review (2026): Free Logos, Files, Limits

Short answer: Namecheap Logo Maker is a free tool that generates logos from your name and style choices; Namecheap says downloads are free, without a watermark, in PNG and SVG, after signing in to a free account. Designs come from shared icons and fonts, so they aren't unique. It's a good start for new sites; Wixel is a similar free option, and a designer is better for a brand you'll trademark.

Namecheap Logo Maker is a free online tool from the domain registrar Namecheap that creates logo designs from your business name and a few style choices, then lets you edit and download them. This Namecheap Logo Maker review covers what it does, what you get when you download, its limits, how it compares with other free logo makers, and how to turn a free logo into something that actually works for your brand.

The Logo Maker’s features come from its own page, checked on 12 October 2026; the account rules come from its FAQ, checked the same day. Details about the other tools come from their own websites, checked on the date at the end.

Is a free logo maker enough? Yes, for now: a new blog or side project, a small business launching fast, testing a name before investing. Hire a designer when you need a unique mark to trademark, a full brand identity, or an established brand's refresh.
Free tools are a good start, not always the finish.

How Namecheap Logo Maker works

  1. Enter your business or site name (and a tagline if you want one).
  2. Answer a few questions about your industry and the style you like.
  3. Pick from generated designs that combine icons, fonts and colour schemes.
  4. Edit the design: change the colours, fonts, icon, size and layout.
  5. Download it after signing in to a free Namecheap account.

Namecheap says you can design without an account if you only want to experiment; you need to sign in only to download. Your saved designs are available again from a “view my existing logos” link on the Logo Maker page. Namecheap also publishes thousands of logo idea pages by industry for inspiration.

Namecheap Logo Maker in 5 steps: enter your name and tagline; answer a few questions about industry and style; pick a design of icons, fonts and colours; edit the colours, font, icon and layout; download PNG and SVG files with a free account.
The whole process takes a few minutes.

What you get when you download

Namecheap’s Logo Maker page calls it a “100% free logo generator” that can create an unlimited number of designs, says it “never adds watermarks”, and says every download includes PNG and SVG files in high resolution.

  • SVG is a vector file: it stays sharp at any size, so use it for print, signs and anywhere you need to scale the logo.
  • PNG is an image file, usually with a transparent background, which is what most websites and social profiles need.

Keep both, plus a version on a white background and one on a dark background, so you always have the right file to hand.

Is it really free?

Namecheap describes the Logo Maker as free, with free downloads and no watermark, and the free Namecheap account it asks for doesn’t require buying anything. That’s a change from some older descriptions of the tool, including this page’s earlier version, which talked about purchasing logo packages. Check the current terms on the download screen before you rely on the logo for a business.

Wix‘s logo maker, now called Wixel, lets you sign in with a free account, answer questions for AI-generated designs or start from a template, and download your logo free as SVG, transparent PNG or JPG. You can save as many versions as you need, such as layouts for your website, social profiles and documents. BrandCrowd lets you make a logo online free and also sells premium logos from designers.

Other popular options include Canva and Looka; their sites didn’t load for us, so they aren’t compared here. If you want a logo nobody else has, a designer, for example through Fiverr, is the next step up.

How to make a good logo with any free tool

  • Keep it simple. A logo has to work at the size of a browser tab and on a phone screen.
  • Use one or two colours and one clear font. More than that looks busy when small.
  • Avoid trends. Wix’s own design tips note that a logo built around a colour or font fad can feel dated within a few years; aim for something that will still look right in ten.
  • Check it in black and white. A good logo still works without colour.
  • Test it at small sizes and on dark and light backgrounds before you decide.

The logo files every site should keep

  • Horizontal logo: icon and name side by side, for your website header.
  • Stacked logo: icon above the name, for square spaces and print.
  • Icon only: for the favicon, app icons and social profile pictures.
  • One-colour versions: all black and all white, for photos, dark backgrounds and documents.
  • Vector master: the SVG, kept safe, so you can export any size later.

Most free logo makers let you rearrange the layout before downloading, so create each version while you’re in the editor rather than trying to rebuild it later.

Common mistakes with free logos

  • Too much detail. Fine lines and small text disappear at favicon size.
  • Using the first design. Generate several, compare them side by side, and ask a few people which one they remember.
  • Ignoring the name. If the name is hard to read in the chosen font, the logo fails, however nice the icon is.
  • Losing the files. Store the downloads with your other business documents, not only in the tool’s account.

Using your logo on a WordPress site

  1. Site logo: upload the PNG (or SVG, if your theme supports it) in your theme’s logo setting, usually under Appearance → Customize or the Site Editor.
  2. Site icon (favicon): WordPress asks for a square image at least 512 × 512 pixels, and recommends PNG. Since WordPress 6.5 it’s set in Settings → General.
  3. Social profiles: export a square version of the icon for profile pictures.

Your theme decides where the logo appears and how large it can be; the Astra Pro review and best WordPress themes cover the header options in popular themes.

Can you trademark a logo from a free logo maker?

Be careful. Logos built from a tool’s shared icons and fonts may not be unique, and other people can create very similar designs with the same tool. If your brand matters enough to register a trademark, read the tool’s licence terms first and consider having a designer create an original mark. Trademark rules differ by country, so get local advice before you file.

A logo is only the start. Pick your brand colours (with their hex codes), one or two fonts and a short set of rules for how the logo is used, and apply them consistently across your site, social profiles and emails. Match your logo to your name: if you’re building on your own name, see whether to use your own name as a domain, and if you need a domain to go with it, the Namecheap review covers registration and free privacy.

A free logo is a sensible way to launch, but there are clear signs it’s time to invest in a designer: you’re about to print packaging, signs or merchandise; you’re applying for a trademark; customers start recognising the brand and you want a mark that’s truly yours; or your free logo looks too similar to others in your niche. When you do, give the designer your current logo, your colours and examples of logos you like, so the new mark is an evolution rather than a fresh start that confuses existing visitors. Keep the old files too, in case you need them for older material.

Who should use Namecheap Logo Maker

  • Good fit: a new blog, a side project or a small business that needs a clean logo today, for free.
  • Look elsewhere: an established brand, a business planning to trademark its logo, or anyone who needs a full brand identity.

Is Namecheap Logo Maker worth using? The verdict

For a free tool, Namecheap Logo Maker does what most new sites need: it turns a name into a usable logo in minutes, with PNG and SVG files and no watermark, as Namecheap describes it. Its limits are the same as every template-based logo maker: designs aren’t unique and the controls are basic. Use it to launch, try Wixel for more layout versions, and invest in a designer once the brand is earning and worth protecting.
