How Astra scores
How I tested: Features and prices checked on Astra's pricing, Astra Pro and free-vs-Pro pages, and the theme's WordPress.org listing (version 4.14.0, updated 24 September 2026), on 11 October 2026; alternatives' installation figures from WordPress.org the same day. No new test site was built for this update. The rating is an editorial score from these checks (features, value, terms, fit for bloggers), not a hands-on test.
Who it’s for
This Astra Pro review explains what you actually get when you upgrade the free Astra theme, what each plan costs in the first year and at renewal, and whether it’s worth paying for. Astra is one of the most used WordPress themes: WordPress.org lists more than a million active installations and a 4.9 out of 5 rating. Astra Pro is not a separate theme but an add-on plugin that unlocks the theme’s advanced design, header, layout and WooCommerce options.
Every price and feature below comes from Astra’s own pricing and comparison pages and its WordPress.org listing, checked on the date at the end. We didn’t build a new test site for this update, so there are no speed scores here.

Astra free vs Astra Pro
Astra‘s free theme already includes a header and footer builder, starter templates and basic colour and typography settings, and many sites never need more. Astra’s own comparison lists what Pro adds:
| Area | Free Astra | Astra Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Colours, typography, spacing | Limited | Full control, including blog, archive and single-post pages |
| Header | Header builder | Mega Menu, sticky header with animations, show on scroll up |
| Page headers | One style | Multiple page headers |
| Custom layouts | No | Site Builder for custom headers, footers and hooks |
| WooCommerce | Limited | Full: shop and product styling, distraction-free checkout, mini-cart |
| LearnDash | Limited | Full, including distraction-free learning |
| White label | No | Yes, rename the theme for clients |
From Astra’s “Astra Free vs Pro” comparison page, checked 11 October 2026.
Astra Pro features that matter most
- Mega Menu: multi-column menus with their own typography, colours and spacing, useful for sites with many categories.
- Sticky header: a header that stays visible as visitors scroll, with options to hide it on scroll down and show it on scroll up, and per-device settings.
- Site Builder (custom layouts): design custom headers, footers and blocks and place them on chosen pages or hooks, without a page builder.
- Full design control: colours, typography and spacing for every part of the site, including blog archives and single posts.
- WooCommerce and LearnDash options: styling for shop and course pages, a distraction-free checkout and focused learning layouts.
- Integrations and extras: Astra lists integrations with LatePoint (bookings), WooCommerce and GiveWP (donations), plus a custom-branded login page.

Astra Pro for bloggers
For a blog, the most useful Pro features are the design ones. Full typography and spacing control for blog archives and single posts lets you make long articles easier to read; multiple page headers let category pages look different from posts; and a sticky header that reappears when readers scroll up keeps your menu and search one tap away. If you have many categories, the Mega Menu can show them in columns instead of a long dropdown. The Site Builder can also place a custom block, such as a newsletter box or a disclosure note, on chosen pages without editing theme files.
Astra Pro for online stores
Astra’s comparison marks WooCommerce as limited in the free theme and full-featured in Pro. Pro adds colour and typography controls for the shop and single product pages, a distraction-free checkout that removes the menu and other distractions while customers pay, and a mini-cart shortcode. For a small WooCommerce shop that wants a clean, consistent design without a separate builder, that’s a strong reason to upgrade. Course sites get similar options for LearnDash, including distraction-free lesson pages.
Astra Pro for freelancers and agencies
White label lets you rename Astra and Astra Pro in the dashboard, so clients see your agency’s name. The bundles raise the site limit (10 websites on Essential, up to 1,000 on Business) and add blueprint and sandbox sites for building and testing client projects, plus premium starter templates to start each site faster. If you build several client sites a year, the Essential or Business bundle usually costs less per site than buying Astra Pro separately.
Astra Pro pricing
You can buy Astra Pro on its own or as part of a bundle. On its own:
- Astra Pro, annual: $69 a year, billed once a year, for up to 3 websites, with premium support.
- Astra Pro, lifetime: $249 one-time (Astra shows it reduced from $349), for up to 3 websites, with no renewal.
The bundles add other Brainstorm Force products and AI site-building tools:
| Bundle | First year | Renews at | Lifetime | Websites |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Astra Pro + AI | $99 | $149/year | $279 | 3 |
| Essential Toolkit + AI | $199 | $299/year | $549 | 10 |
| Business Toolkit + AI | $279 | $429/year | $799 | 1,000 |
From Astra’s pricing page, checked 11 October 2026. Astra says introductory prices are special pricing and all renewals are at full price.
Every bundle includes Astra Pro, Spectra Pro (a blocks plugin), Premium Starter Templates, Ultimate Elementor Addons, SureForms Agency, AI site generation and 24/7 priority support, plus free extras such as hosted websites and a domain name for a year. Larger bundles add more blueprint and sandbox sites, and Business adds VIP support.

What’s inside the bundles
- Spectra Pro: extra blocks and design options for the WordPress block editor.
- Premium Starter Templates: ready-made full-site designs to import and edit.
- Ultimate Elementor Addons: extra widgets for people who build with Elementor.
- SureForms Agency: a form builder plugin.
- AI platform: generate and customise sites with AI, with an AI site planner.
- Free extras: 1, 2 or 5 hosted websites depending on the bundle, and a domain name for a year.
Astra lists separate prices for each of these to show the saving, but a bundle is only good value if you’ll use several of them. If you build with the block editor and don’t use Elementor, for example, one of the four tools is of no use to you.
Three-year cost: annual vs lifetime
| Plan | Annual for 3 years | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| Astra Pro (addon only) | $207 (3 × $69) | $249 |
| Astra Pro + AI | $397 ($99 + $149 + $149) | $279 |
| Essential Toolkit + AI | $797 ($199 + $299 + $299) | $549 |
| Business Toolkit + AI | $1,137 ($279 + $429 + $429) | $799 |
Our calculations from Astra’s listed prices.
For the bundles, the lifetime licence is already cheaper than three years of annual payments, because renewals are at full price. For Astra Pro on its own, lifetime pays off from the fourth year.
Which Astra plan should you buy?
- Your own blog or business site, and you’re happy with the free templates: Astra Pro on its own at $69 a year, or the $249 lifetime licence if you’ll use it for more than about four years.
- You want premium templates, Spectra Pro or AI site building: Astra Pro + AI ($99, then $149).
- A freelancer building client sites: Essential Toolkit + AI, for 10 websites.
- An agency: Business Toolkit + AI, for up to 1,000 websites.
Annual vs lifetime: the stand-alone lifetime licence costs about the same as three and a half years of the annual plan, so it pays off if you keep using Astra beyond that. Bundles follow a similar pattern.
Performance and ease of use
Astra’s free theme is popular partly because it’s light on page weight, and Astra Pro’s features are added on top, so you can leave unused ones switched off. Settings live in the familiar WordPress Customizer, with live preview, so there’s little to learn if you’ve used WordPress before. Because it works with the block editor and popular page builders such as Elementor, you can keep whichever editing style you prefer.
For speed, your hosting and plugins matter as much as your theme. See the best WordPress hosting and the best WordPress plugins, including caching.
Astra Pro or a page builder?
Page builders such as Elementor can also design headers, footers and templates, so some people wonder whether they need Astra Pro at all. The difference is approach: Astra Pro keeps design in the theme and the WordPress Customizer, which suits sites built mostly with the block editor and keeps pages lighter; a page builder gives drag-and-drop control over every page, at the cost of another plugin to learn and load. If you already build everything in a page builder’s theme builder, Astra Pro adds little. If you write in the block editor and want a polished design around it, Astra Pro is the simpler route.
How to install Astra Pro
- Install and activate the free Astra theme from Appearance → Themes.
- Buy Astra Pro and download the Astra Pro plugin from your Astra account.
- Upload it in Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, activate it, and enter your licence key.
- Turn on the modules you need (for example Mega Menu or Site Builder) in Astra’s settings.
- Optionally import a starter template, then customise colours, fonts and layouts in the Customizer.
Getting the most from Astra Pro
- Turn on only what you use. Fewer active features means a simpler setup and less to maintain.
- Set global styles first. Choose your fonts, colours and spacing once in the Customizer, then adjust individual areas such as the blog or shop.
- Use custom layouts for repeated blocks like a newsletter sign-up or an affiliate disclosure, instead of pasting them into every post.
- Test on mobile. Check the sticky header and Mega Menu on a phone; what looks good on a desktop can crowd a small screen.
- Keep the licence active on annual plans if you want updates and support, and put the renewal date in your calendar.
Astra Pro pros and cons
Pros
- Built on one of the most used and best-rated free themes on WordPress.org.
- Affordable on its own: $69 a year or $249 lifetime for 3 sites.
- Mega Menu, sticky header, custom layouts and white label without a page builder.
- Strong WooCommerce and LearnDash options.
- A 14-day money-back guarantee.
Cons
- Bundle renewals are much higher than the first-year price ($99 becomes $149).
- The free theme already covers many sites’ needs, so Pro can be unnecessary.
- The 14-day refund window is short compared with some rivals.
- Bundles include several products you may not use.
Who shouldn’t buy Astra Pro
- Anyone happy with the free Astra theme: it already includes a header and footer builder and starter templates.
- Sites built entirely with a page builder’s own theme builder, which already handles headers, footers and layouts.
- Anyone who’ll only use it for a month or two: the refund window is 14 days, so test it early and ask for a refund within that time if it isn’t right for you.

Is Astra Pro worth it? The verdict
Astra Pro is worth it if you’ve outgrown the free theme’s design options and want a mega menu, sticky header, custom layouts, full typography control or richer WooCommerce styling, without moving to a heavy page builder. On its own, at $69 a year or $249 for life, it’s good value for one to three sites. The bundles are worth it only if you’ll use the extra tools, and you should budget for the higher renewal price. If the free Astra theme already does what you need, keep it: it’s one of the best free WordPress themes available, and you can add Pro later without rebuilding your site.
