- A geni.us link is a Geniuslink redirect that localizes Amazon links by country and device.
- It's safe for shoppers; for affiliates, Geniuslink says it keeps the referrer as Amazon's rules require.
- Pricing is usage-based: $6 a month including 1,000 clicks, then $3.50 per 1,000, with a 14-day free trial.
- Amazon OneLink is free but works for links on your own site; geni.us links work anywhere.
- It pays off when many clicks come from other countries or from phones.
What is geni.us? It’s the short-link domain of Geniuslink, a paid link service made by GeoRiot Networks. When you see a link that starts with geni.us, someone created it in Geniuslink, usually to share an Amazon product. When you click it, Geniuslink works out where you are and what device you’re on, then sends you to the right product in your own country’s Amazon store, or into the Amazon app on your phone.
For the person who shared the link, that means they can earn affiliate commissions from shoppers in other countries and lose fewer mobile sales. For you as the shopper, a geni.us link is just a redirect to a normal store page. This guide explains what geni.us links do, whether they’re safe, what Geniuslink costs and whether you need it, with every fact taken from Geniuslink’s and Amazon’s own pages.
What is geni.us, in plain words?
Think of geni.us as a smart signpost. A normal Amazon link points to one store, for example amazon.com. A geni.us link points to Geniuslink first, and Geniuslink decides where to send each visitor:
- A visitor in the UK goes to the same (or the closest matching) product on amazon.co.uk.
- A visitor on a phone is sent into the Amazon app when possible, instead of a browser inside Instagram or YouTube where they’re logged out.
- A visitor on a “Choice Page” sees a small landing page with buttons for several stores and picks one.
The link creator adds their affiliate IDs for each Amazon country once, and Geniuslink attaches the right one to every click. That’s the whole idea: one link, shared anywhere, that works for shoppers everywhere.
Why creators use geni.us links
International Amazon commissions
Amazon runs more than 20 national stores, and each Amazon Associates programme pays only for sales in its own store. If a blogger links to amazon.com and a reader in Canada buys from amazon.ca instead, the blogger earns nothing. Geniuslink’s localization sends each visitor to their local store and adds the right affiliate ID, so those sales count. Geniuslink recommends starting with the Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.ca programmes for most English-language sites.
Geniuslink says it matches products between stores with its own algorithms, because the same item often has a different product ID in each country. In its own test of 3,119 products (summer 2021), it reported 1,200 correct matches against 796 for Amazon’s free OneLink tool. That’s the company’s own test, so treat the exact numbers as a claim.
Mobile deep linking
When someone taps an Amazon link inside a social app, it usually opens in that app’s built-in browser, where they aren’t logged in to Amazon, and Geniuslink says many shoppers give up at that point. Every Amazon link built in Geniuslink tries to open the Amazon app or the phone’s default browser instead. For YouTubers and Instagram creators, whose links are mostly tapped inside apps, this is often the main reason to use it.
Choice Pages and other stores
Choice Pages turn one link into a small comparison page with several stores. Geniuslink builds most of the page from the first Amazon link you add, and suggests the same product in other stores. Beyond Amazon, it supports thousands of retailers through networks such as Sovrn Commerce and Skimlinks, so one dashboard can manage links to many shops.
Seller networks
Geniuslink can also connect seller networks to your account. These are programmes where Amazon sellers pay creators directly for sales of their products, and Geniuslink says their rates can be up to ten times higher than standard Amazon commissions. Geniuslink applies its localization, deep linking and Choice Pages to those links too. It’s a newer, advanced option; most people start with Amazon Associates alone.
One thing Geniuslink can’t do for you is join the programmes. To earn in a country, you need that country’s Amazon Associates account (or that country added to your account, where Amazon allows it), and you add each ID in the Geniuslink dashboard once.
Link health and editing
Geniuslink alerts you when an Amazon link breaks or a product goes out of stock, and you can change where a link points at any time without editing the video description or post where it was shared. For a YouTube channel with hundreds of old videos, that alone saves hours.

Is geni.us safe?
For shoppers: a geni.us link is a redirect: it sends you on to a retailer’s page. As with any short link, check that the page you land on is the real store (for example, the address bar shows amazon.com or your local Amazon) before you log in or pay.
For Amazon affiliates: Geniuslink says it’s safe to use with the Amazon Associates programme, and explains that short links are allowed as long as visitors can tell the link goes to Amazon. Amazon’s operating agreement forbids links that hide or obscure the site the click came from; Geniuslink says it keeps the referrer information, so Amazon can still see where clicks originate. Its own advice for staying within the rules:
- Make it clear that Amazon is the destination, with text like “Buy at Amazon” next to or in the link.
- In the WordPress plugin, turn on the option that keeps the original Amazon link until the moment of the click, so readers see an Amazon address when they hover.
- Or use Choice Pages, which show Amazon buttons automatically.
How much does Geniuslink cost?
Geniuslink charges by usage rather than a fixed plan: a $6 monthly base fee that includes your first 1,000 clicks, then $3.50 for every further 1,000. Geniuslink’s own estimate shows $13 a month for the base fee plus two extra blocks of 1,000 clicks, which is about 3,000 clicks. There’s no flat monthly rate and no volume ceiling, and Geniuslink says it doesn’t bill for bot or junk clicks.
- Free trial: 14 days with unlimited clicks; a valid credit card is required, and you can cancel any time.
- Custom domain: using your own short domain instead of geni.us costs $50 a month extra.
- Billing: invoiced on the first of each month for the previous month’s clicks; the dashboard shows your running total.

Whether it pays for itself depends on your audience. If most of your buyers are in one country and on desktop, you gain little. If a large share of your clicks come from other countries or from phones, the extra commissions can easily cover a few dollars a month.

Amazon OneLink is Amazon’s own free answer to localization: Amazon’s Associates help pages explain how it lets you earn from visitors in other countries, such as Canada, the UK, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Australia, once you link your Associates IDs for those stores. It’s built for links on your own website. Geniuslink’s advantages are that its links work anywhere (YouTube descriptions, social posts, emails, podcasts), add mobile app deep linking and Choice Pages, and, by its own test, match products more accurately.
If your links live mainly on your own WordPress site, the free Amazon Link Engine plugin from Geniuslink localizes Amazon links on every page load without any account; you need a Geniuslink account only to add your Associates IDs and earn international commissions.

Pretty Links and ThirstyAffiliates solve a different problem: tidy, branded links on your own domain (like yoursite.com/go/product) that you can update in one place. This site used ThirstyAffiliates before moving to its own link system. Lasso manages affiliate links inside WordPress, and Bitly is a general shortener with no affiliate features.
Do you need Geniuslink?
- Yes, probably, if you share Amazon links on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or in emails, and a good part of your audience is outside your main country or on phones.
- Maybe, if you run an international blog: compare the free Amazon Link Engine plugin or OneLink first, then try Geniuslink’s 14-day trial and compare commissions.
- No, if almost all your buyers are in one country and click from a desktop, or if you don’t promote Amazon products.
How to create a geni.us link
- Sign up for the 14-day trial and connect your Amazon Associates programmes (start with the countries where you get the most visitors).
- Paste an Amazon product link into Geniuslink, or use one of its other methods: the WordPress plugin, a JavaScript snippet for your site, the YouTube link optimizer for existing video descriptions, or the API.
- Copy the geni.us link and use it wherever you share the product, with a clear “on Amazon” label.
- Watch the reports for clicks and commissions, and act on broken-link or out-of-stock alerts.
